EAST HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP – Emergency personnel were dispatched to Rt. 283 East in the area of Rt. 741 for a crash at 5:39 this morning. Upon arrival, it was determined that the collision involved 2 vehicles, and both lanes of eastbound Rt. 283 were blocked. The investigation revealed that a Subaru Outback traveling eastbound swerved to avoid a deer in the highway, and struck an unoccupied Mercedes-Benz that was parked on the shoulder of the highway. The sole occupant of the Subaru was uninjured, and there were no other reported injuries as a result of the incident. Rt. 283 East remained closed until approximately 7:30 AM. The investigation is complete, and no traffic violations were discovered. The condition of the deer is unknown.
