YORK – Sections of Rt. 30 East and Rt. 222 North were briefly closed this morning as a motorcade transporting the body of fallen officer Andrew Duarte proceeded from the York County Coroner’s Office to Lehigh Valley. Along the route, locals and first responders were enouraged to show their support and pay their respects to Duarte, who died in the line of duty on Saturday. Duarte was among the officers who responded to the shooting at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York when gunman Diogenes Archangel-Ortiz opened fire on officers and staff. 49-year-old Archangel-Ortiz entered the hospital’s intensive care unit and took staff members hostage before he too was shot and killed. Officer Duarte had been a member of the West York Borough Police Department in 2022 after serving for five years in Denver, Colorado. The West York Borough Police Department has posted on their social media various ways for the public to donate and support Duarte’s family.
