HARRISBURG – PennDOT is reminding Pennsylvanians of the life-saving benefits of organ and tissue donation and explained how persons can easily register as an organ donor at PennDOT. Over 47.7% of current driver’s license and ID-card holders are registered as organ donors – nearly 4.9 million Pennsylvanians. Currently, more than 6,000 Pennsylvanians await organ transplants.
PennDOT Deputy Secretary for Driver and Vehicle Services, Kara Templeton said Pennsylvanians can choose to become an organ donor when you renew your driver’s license or ID card, or you can go online to register. Pennsylvanians can add the organ donor designation to an existing driver’s license or ID-card by visiting the Organ and Tissue Donation page on the PennDOT Driver and Vehicle Services website. Once the designation is added, individuals will receive a designation card that they must carry with them until they renew or replace their driver’s license or ID- card. There is no charge for adding the designation.
