LANCASTER – A Lancaster man pleaded guilty to 60 charges regarding a shooting at Park City Mall on Oct. 17, 2021. Jeremiahs Sanchez, now 18, pleaded no contest in county court. Sanchez was in the mall with a loaded firearm that had been stolen. Sanchez, who was 16 at the time, was approached by 18-year-old Elijah Deliz and 30-year-old Sergio Vargas. A physical altercation between the three ensued and Sanchez fired one shot that struck Deliz in the leg and another that struck a 30-year-old uninvolved civilian in the arm. Vargas then pulled Sanchez to the ground and another shot was fired that struck Vargas in the hand. An innocent bystander legally possessing a firearm shot at Sanchez three times in defense of himself and others, told Sanchez to stop moving, and removed the firearm Sanchez possessed. A mass exodus from the mall following the shooting caused an elderly woman to be hurt. Prosecutors said 52 individuals including men, women, and small children were in the area during the shooting. Sanchez must pay over $24,000 in restitution. The judge accepted the plea and will order sentence later after a pre-sentence investigation is completed.
