HARRISBURG – This week is National Police Week – a time to honor the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of the men and women who serve and protect our communities every day. Behind every badge is a story of service, compassion, and commitment. Sen. Scott Martin of Lancaster & Berks Counties was a co-sponsor of Senate Resolution 303 recognizing this week as National Police Week in the Commonwealth. His father was a police officer. Martin said it’s tough as a kid growing up and always wondering if your Dad or Mom was going to come home at the end of their shift as they walk into many dangerous situations. Peace Officers Memorial Day is this Friday, May 15. First established by President John Kennedy in 1962, the day pays tribute to the brave local, state, and federal peace officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty.
