HARRISBURG –Dauphin County Rep. Dave Madsen has introduced a bill aimed at fostering diversity and local entrepreneurship in PA’s medical marijuana industry. House Bill 1942 seeks to address existing challenges within the industry while prioritizing patient care and access. Madsen said his legislation would empower local entrepreneurs as it is crucial to ensure that all patients have convenient access to the care they need, and this proposal aligns with those objectives. The bill promotes the creation of Independent Local Dispensary permits within the medical marijuana framework. The permits aim to empower small local businesses and foster diversity by providing opportunities to individuals from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds, including local entrepreneurs, women, minorities, and veterans. Patients and caregivers face significant hurdles in accessing medical marijuana, particularly in under-served regions, necessitating extensive travel to obtain essential medication. The bill is before the PA House Health Committee.
