LANCASTER – Today is Fasnacht Day or Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. Fasnacht translates into “fast night” in English stemming from the need to use up the lard, sugar, butter, and eggs prior to the beginning of Lent since these lavish items were typically given up. Many bakeries and some churches are making the traditional treat.
