HARRISBURG – Erie County Rep. Jacob Banta has introduced a bill granting motorcyclists the ability to hold the same organized procession rights in PA that are given to funeral processions. The legislation would allow for groups no fewer than 10 motorcyclists to hold organized processions between the hours of 8 a.m. and sunset. Furthermore, a procession must be sponsored by a corporation or nonprofit and be conducted for a memorial or charitable purpose. At least 10% of the total drivers in the procession must wear a class 2 or higher yellow reflective vest approved by the American National Standards Institute. The measure would support charitable and memorial motorcycle processions such as veteran tributes, first responder rides or educational fundraisers. Banta says allowing motorcycle processions to have the same rights as funeral processions will allow lawmakers to set clear rules for processions to reduce accidents and conflicts, and enhance safety measures surrounding processions. House Bill 2362 has been referred to the PA House Transportation Committee.
