HARRISBURG – Legislation received bipartisan support in the PA Senate to address the staffing crisis facing the state’s correctional institutions. Senate Bill 111 was introduced at the request of the PA State Corrections Officers Association. It would permit qualified candidates across state lines to fill critical vacancies in PA’s correctional facilities, while ensuring PA residents continue to receive hiring preference. Corrections officers across the state have faced unprecedented challenges in recent years, including mandatory overtime, increased stress, and a rise in violent incidents that have strained morale and operations. The bill directly addresses these issues by modernizing hiring policies and expanding recruitment opportunities. The bill goes to the PA House for consideration.
