LANCASTER – Today is the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. As a result, federal, state, and local governments are closed, most schools have the day off, banking institutions are closed, and there will be no home mail delivery today. The holiday honors the life and legacy of the civil rights leader known for his advocacy for racial equality and non-violent protest. Many communities hold a Day of Service, encouraging citizens to volunteer and strengthen their communities. The day will feature speeches, marches, and community service reflecting on Dr. King’s message of hope, justice, and human dignity.
