HARRISBURG – Bipartisan legislation has been introduced allowing local law enforcement agencies to use radar speed detection, a tool used in every other state in the nation. Supporters say allowing radar will improve accuracy, reduce costs, and give local officers modern tools to enforce traffic laws efficiently and effectively. Currently, only the PA State Police can use radar for speed detection. Senate Bill 1237 has revenue-generating prevention language in the proposal, as will mandatory training provisions and the inclusion of a municipal opt-in ordinance process. The bill is before the PA Senate Transportation Committee.
