LANCASTER COUNTY – A Lancaster County teacher is facing charges after an investigation originating from the New Jersey Crimes Against Children Task Force. 45-year-old David Burkhart of Lititz is charged with sexual abuse of children, unlawful contact with a minor, and criminal use of a communication facility. Manheim Township detectives were contacted by a member of the task force who had been conducting an online chat investigation while pretending to be a 14-year-old female through social media. During the investigation, the other participant was identified as a male Manheim Township High School business education teacher, who was later identified as Burkhart. On September 4, a search warrant was executed for Burkhart’s electronic devices, including his phone. Detectives located numerous indecent photos and videos. A criminal complaint was filed. Burkhart was arraigned and released on $25,000 unsecured bail. As a condition of his bail, Burkhart is not allowed to use social media or to have any contact with children or the victims.
