LANCASTER COUNTY – A prosthetic leg led to a crash in Lancaster County. On November 12 around 8 a.m., police responded to a vehicle accident that occurred near Route 322 and Sharp Avenue in Clay Township. A 2015 Chevy Equinox operated by John Steffy of Stevens was eastbound on 322 when his prosthetic leg became lodged on the accelerator as he turned south on Sharp Avenue. Steffy struck a 2025 Chevrolet Trax operated by Eileen Sprague of Ephrata, causing damage. After the collision, Steffy’s vehicle continued south on Sharp Avenue at a high rate of speed, crashed through a fence, and went into a field coming to rest about 100 yards from the roadway before coming to a stop. Steffy was transported via EMS to the hospital for further treatment and evaluation. No other injuries were reported. The crash remains under investigation.
