HARRISBURG – Heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson visited Harrisburg to push for the legalization of recreational marijuana. His marijuana company is projected to make $75 million in sales this year. Tyson stands to profit even more if PA lawmakers give in to industry pressure and pass Senate Bill 120, which would force every PA community to allow pot shops selling harmful and addictive marijuana products for recreational use. Dan Bartkowiak with the PA Family Council said PA doesn’t need celebrity endorsements to shape public policy. We need credible evidence on public health and safety. Paid lobbyists pushing “addiction-for-profit” schemes should never overshadow the voices of health experts, law enforcement, and parents who see marijuana’s real-world impact every day. States experimenting with recreational marijuana have seen more children in emergency rooms due to marijuana exposure, higher rates of drugged driving and traffic fatalities, and a spike in mental health problems. He added if we value public health and safety — and credible evidence over celebrity influence — state lawmakers should reject Senate Bill 120 and any effort to commercialize marijuana for recreational use.
