HARRISBURG – Sen. Scott Martin of Lancaster & Berks Counties is encouraging local high school students to participate in a special essay contest celebrating our nation’s 250th anniversary. The contest is open to all students who live in the 13th Senatorial District in grades 9 through 12 attending public, private, charter, cyber or home school. Participants are asked to write a 250-500 word essay on why the Declaration of Independence is considered to be one of the most important documents in world history. Submissions are due by April 1 and the winner will be notified on April 3. The winner will be invited to represent the region at the PA Senate’s Ceremonial Celebration in Philadelphia on May 5 in honor of the 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation.
