HARRISBURG – A three bill package of election reform legislation has been introduced by York County Rep. Wendy Fink. House Bill 1158 would establish Election Day as a state holiday, ensuring schools and government offices are closed, so more Pennsylvanians can vote in person at an accessible polling place. House Bill 1160 would require ballots to be randomly hand counted in a set number of precincts in each county, ensuring accuracy and accountability. House Bill 1162 would bolster oversight of the mail-in and absentee ballot process by returning ballots to precincts where they will be kept on Election Day, providing an option for voters who are denied the ability to vote based on a record of having previously completed a mail-in-ballot. Fink said her election reform bills would not only bolster transparency and preserve the integrity of the election process, but would also lessen the burden on counties on Election Day. The bills are before the PA House State Government Committee.
