DELAWARE – Voters in Delaware selected Democrat Matt Meyer over Republican Michael Ramone in the race for governor. Meyer currently serves as chief executive of Delaware’s most populous county and will now become chief executive of state government. His victory extends Democrats’ decades-long winning streak in gubernatorial contests in the state. Delaware voters selected Democrat U.S. Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester to represent them in the U.S. Senate. She defeated Republican Eric Hansen to fill the seat left vacant by fellow Democrat Sen. Tom Carper, who retired. Delaware state Sen. Sarah McBride was elected to the U.S. House and will become the first openly transgender person to serve in Congress. McBride defeated Republican John Whalen III in the race for Delaware’s lone House seat.
