HARRISBURG – The PA House Education Committee voted to advance Washington & Allegheny County Rep. Jason Ortitay’s legislation to increase awareness regarding eating disorders in children. House Bill 190 would require schools to annually provide parents of students in grades six through 12 with educational information regarding eating disorders through email, first-class mail, or the school district’s website. The Republican lawmaker said there’s no time for delay as social media use continues to grow, which contributes to body dissatisfaction and eating disorders. He added as a father of two young girls, it is vital parents have the tools to quickly identify eating disorders and know what resources are available to get help. The bill now goes to the full PA House for its consideration.
