LANCASTER(AP) – Democrats and their allied groups are pouring in more money and sending in the national party chairman in the final week of campaigning for a PA Supreme Court election. The race could reshape the highest court in PA as Democrats try to blunt a late-emerging Republican campaign to oust three Democrat justices. At issue in Tuesday’s election is whether the justices will each serve another term after a retention vote. The state’s politically divided government has left disputes over election laws and other major issues to the courts in recent years. Voters will decide next Tuesday if Justices Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty, and David Wecht are retained on the bench for another term. The three justices are being portrayed as defenders of abortion, union rights, and voting rights. Backing them are labor unions, trial lawyers, and Planned Parenthood’s political arm.
