LANCASTER COUNTY – An investigation by the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office determined that a November 3rd officer-involved shooting was justified. 39-year-old Andrew Ward of Elizabethtown was arrested Saturday, Nov. 2 around 10 p.m.for a DUI charge. He was not cooperative and his sunglasses were reportedly damaged. Ward was processed and released to his spouse at 11 p.m. that night. He returned to the station at 1:30 a.m. Sunday and used an outside phone to call 911 and inform police that he was at the station wanting to retrieve a missing part of his damaged glasses. while meeting with two police officers, Ward, who was intoxicated, became combative. Ward later pulled a handgun from his front waistband and pointed it at the officers. One officer pulled his weapon and fired at Ward. After life saving measures were performed, Ward died from his injuries. After reviewing body camera footage from both officers, investigators concluded that Ward’s actions clearly placed everyone in danger of death or serious bodily injury, and therefore the officer was legally justified to use deadly force.
