HARRISBURG – Gov. Josh Shapiro signed Senate Bill 37 into law. Known as Paul Miller’s Law, the measure prohibits the use of hand-held devices while driving. The bipartisan legislation, now Act 18 of 2024, makes PA the 29th state in the nation to ban distracted driving. It allows law enforcement to issue a ticket when a driver uses a hand-held cell phone while driving. Drivers can still use their phones to alert emergency responders, make phone calls, use a GPS, and listen to music, if they are using hands-free technology. Paul Miller Jr. was killed in an accident in 2010 in Monroe County as the result of a distracted driver. In 2023, distracted driving was the leading cause of car crashes in PA with over 11,000 crashes that involved a distracted driver.
