HARRISBURG – York County Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill and Allegheny County Sen. Lindsey Williams plan to introduce the Commonwealth Fraud Prevention Act for Taxpayer Accountability. The measure will protect whistleblowers and encourage the reporting of fraud, waste, and abuse. It encourages citizens to come forward as whistleblowers against those filing false or fraudulent claims against PA government in order to protect taxpayer dollars. It will also allow the state to recover an additional 10% of any monies recovered under the law. Thirty-one states, including Maryland, have passed similar legislation. Since the enactment of the Maryland False Claims Act, that state has recovered $81.6 million.
