HARRISBURG – With the PA Department of Health withdrawing its proposed regulations following significant public opposition, PA Family Institute reports that more than 8,000 Pennsylvanians responded through their action alert and outreach, raising concerns about parental rights, medical privacy, religious freedom, the impact on pro-life efforts, and expanded government intrusion in schools. PA Family Institute staff also submitted formal comments on the proposal, including a fiscal analysis finding that implementation of the regulations would cost Pennsylvania more than $100 million annually. Randall Wenger, Chief Counsel with the Independence Law Center in Harrisburg which is part of the PA Family Institute network, said the withdrawal is a victory for PA parents, families and schools who spoke up against this sweeping expansion of government power. But the issue is not over as Wenger added that the Department has already said it plans to rewrite and resubmit the regulations. He said we will be watching closely to ensure that the fundamental rights of parents and families are protected.
