HARRISBURG – PA Attorney General Josh Shapiro is warning that scammers are trying to take advantage of the increase in unemployment across the state by using fake unemployment filing websites in order to steal personal information or to harvest the data to sell to others for uses not properly disclosed to the user. Only file for unemployment through the state Department of Labor & Industry website at uc.pa.gov. Stay away from websites purported to help people file unemployment compensation claims. These websites solicit information not needed for the filing of an unemployment claim such as information about your mortgage or credit company. In PA, unemployment claims can only be filed with the Labor Department. Pennsylvanians can file a complaint about a scam by visiting attorneygeneral.gov/scams.
