HARRISBURG – The PA Senate approved House Bill 1300, known as the Voting Rights Protection Act. The bill would require voter ID and make a host of other changes to PA election law. The bill would also alter registration and ballot counting deadlines and create several new methods to check election results. It also makes changes county elections officials have sought to begin counting votes earlier and to set an earlier deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot. The legislation was developed in large part as a response to voter distrust in last year’s election. The measure is on its way to Gov. Tom Wolf, who is expected to veto it.
