HARRISBURG – Today we celebrate Veterans Day to honor the men and women who currently serve and have served in our armed forces. Originally known as Armistice Day, it first marked the one-year anniversary of the end of World War I, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Armistice Day was declared a national holiday in 1938 and then was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to celebrate the contributions of veterans of all wars. Area Congressman Lloyd Smucker said it’s important for all Americans to pause and thank the men and women who have served. PA House Speaker, Lancaster County Rep. Bryan Cutler hopes all will remember the men and women who serve. Many communities are offering Veterans Day tributes and services.
