WASHINGTON, DC (AP) – PA U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey says former President Donald Trump betrayed his office by trying to “hold on to power despite having legitimately lost” the election to Joe Biden. Toomey was one of seven GOP senators who voted to convict Trump at his impeachment trial Saturday. He says that even though the Senate voted to acquit, a bipartisan majority of senators delivered an “extremely powerful rebuke” to Trump. Toomey was harshly critical of Trump in the days after the Capitol riot, calling for his resignation. Toomey is retiring in 2022, but he said Saturday that he would have voted to convict even if he planned to run for re-election.
