HARRISBURG – Governor Josh Shapiro signed an executive order Wednesday morning that aims to streamline the process of hiring recently-fired federal employees to fill vacancies in Pennsylvania government agencies. Shapiro signed the executive order at the Commonwealth Job Fair hosted at the Farm Show Complex and Expo Center, and during Wednesday morning’s press conference, he stressed the importance of addressing government job vacancies swiftly and how the executive order takes advantage of those recent federal layoffs and hopes to leverage them to the commonwealth’s advantage. Filling state agency vacancies has been a priority for Shapiro, as he signed an order at the inaugural Commonwealth Job Fair last year that aimed to connect Pennsylvanians to more state public service jobs. Last year’s order, known as the HIRE Executive Order, worked to enhance accessibility in state agencies, especially in regards to language barriers, as it affirmed that non-U.S. citizens can be hired by the commonwealth as long as they’re legally authorized to work in the United States.
