HARRISBURG – A bill that would provide retention bonuses to professionals working in the long-term care profession in PA is being proposed. Lackawanna County Rep. Bridget Kosierowski’s legislation would provide retention bonuses using $200 million of remaining federal funds from the American Rescue Plan of 2021. Kosierowski said we need to provide for those who have worked on the front lines during these challenging times and have remained in the profession. According to the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living, 96% of long-term care facilities are reporting staffing shortages, and it is estimated that over 380,000 long-term care employees have left the profession altogether for positions offering higher wages and better benefits.
