PENNSYLVANIA – Voters had their say in two special elections. In Lancaster County’s 36th Senatorial District, Democrat James Malone, the mayor of East Petersburg, was clinging to a narrow lead over Republican Lancaster County Commissioner Josh Parsons. With 100% of precincts reporting, Malone led Parsons by 482 votes. An unknown number of provisional ballots were left to be counted. Voter turnout in that Lancaster County district was at 29%. Parsons posted on social media late Tuesday that he was “disappointed in the numbers” and that “it appears we will come up a little short.” The seat became vacant after Republican Sen. Ryan Aument left to work for PA U.S. Sen. David McCormick. A Democrat flip of the Lancaster County district, if it occurs, would be a major upset, but would not alter Republican control of the PA Senate. In the other special election in western PA, Democrat Dan Goughnour won over Republican Chuck Davis. He will finish out the term of Democrat Rep. Matt Gergely who died. The win keeps the PA House majority in the hands of Democrats, 102 to 101.
