LANCASTER – Communities, locally and across the nation, gathered to remember the 25th anniversary of the lives lost and the brave first responders who responded to the events of 9-11-2001. Area Congressman Lloyd Smucker reflected on that historic day. He said that 25 years later, we need to rediscover a sense of unity for our nation. Today’s 25th anniversary brought memorial rituals including wreath-laying, flag-flying, moments of silence, vigils and readings of victims’ names.

The Lancaster County Commissioners, alongside Lancaster County’s first responders, held a remembrance ceremony for those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The county commissioners recognized the 52 Lancaster County first responders who died in the line of duty with a wreath laying ceremony. Lancaster County is one of the safest counties in the state, due in large part to the thousands of first responders across the community. It is their service to the community that keep citizens and property safe
