HARRISBURG – A rally was held at the state Capitol in Harrisburg to support House Bill 1. Bill sponsor, Dauphin County Rep. Andrew Lewis talked the Excellence Education for All Act. The bill allows the roughly $6,000 the state pays per pupil to be placed into a scholarship account for that child, rather than going directly to the public school district in which the family resides. The program, called the “Keystone Hope Scholarship,” would assist families who choose to either homeschool students or enroll them in charter, private or parochial schools. House Bill 1 would also expand existing tax credit scholarship programs, reform and innovate charter schools, and protect learning pods that grew in popularity as the COVID-19 pandemic progressed. House Bill 1 was referred to the House Education Committee.
