HARRISBURG – Philadelphia County Rep. Angel Cruz is introducing legislation to recognize Hispanic Heritage Month in PA. Cruz said an estimated 896,000 Hispanic Americans live in the Commonwealth as entrepreneurs, community leaders, essential workers, and more. They have made immeasurable and historic contributions to our society. Cruz, who serves as chairman and founder of the Latino Affairs Caucus, said that observation of Hispanic Heritage Week started in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson and was later extended to a 30-day celebration by President Ronald Reagan, starting on Sept. 15 and ending on Oct. 15, and is in association with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American nations.
