HELLAM TOWNSHIP – PA Farm Bureau President Rick Ebert and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation gathered at Flinchbaugh’s Orchard & Farm Market in Hellam Township, York County to voice support for Senate Bill 645, an agriculture preservation bill. The bill would create a new Agricultural Conservation Assistance Program, providing funding and technical support to expand on-farm conservation practices throughout PA, including high-priority areas such as the Chesapeake Bay Watershed to help improve water quality and meet pollution reduction goals. Agriculture is seeking significant reductions to meet pollution reduction goals for the Chesapeake Bay and other major watersheds in the state as almost one-third of the Commonwealth’s streams do not meet standards for drinking, fishing or recreation. The bill is currently before the state Senate Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee.
