HARRISBURG – With no state budget yet completed, some in Harrisburg are pushing for passage of a bipartisan bill which would suspend the compensation of the governor, lieutenant governor, and members of the General Assembly during a budget impasse. House Bill 1682 is currently before the PA House Appropriations Committee. One of the bill’s co-sponsors, Rep. Dallas Kephart of Cambria & Clearfield Counties says every member of the General Assembly, the governor, and the lieutenant governor know when the budget is due. If the government does not pass a budget by June 30th, then the elected officials responsible should be held accountable. He added that budget negotiations should be done in the open, rather than a few select people making decisions for the entire Commonwealth behind closed doors, as has become the tradition.
