HARRISBURG – Sen. Daylin Leach of Montgomery & Delaware Counties introduced a constitutional amendment banning hydraulic fracturing in PA. It comes after the state Attorney General’s Office released a special grand jury report into harms inflicted by the fracking industry on the health and well-being of residents. The investigation started in 2018, and the report outlines the testimony of over 70 families impacted by the natural gas industry. Leach said he and his staff have toured fracking sites and have heard from Pennsylvanians how their lives have been ruined by the industry. Senate Bill 1217 was referred to the state Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee. It would have to pass two legislative sessions before it would go to voters as a ballot referendum.
