HARRISBURG – A bipartisan bill will be introduced to honor those who are bilingual. According to the most recent U.S. census, over 1.5 million Pennsylvanians are bilingual with fluency in both English and another language. The ability broadens skill sets that employers want in the workforce. Having a secondary language can boost job prospects by up to 35% compared to individuals with fluency in one language. The proposal would give school districts the opportunity to offer a recognized seal of biliteracy on the diplomas of students who have successfully demonstrated biliteracy in their high school education. York County Rep. Joe D’Orsie and Lancaster County Rep. Nikki Rivera are co-sponsoring the measure which is seeking co-sponsors.
