HARRISBURG – Legislation is being introduced which would make it a third-degree felony for anyone who allows a minor to attend a drag show. Columbia County Rep. Robert Leadbeter says many drag shows feature overtly sexual themes, inappropriate outfits, and explicit language, none of which belong in front of children. Such exposure accelerates the premature sexualization of minors which has been linked to serious psychological and emotional harm. Under current PA law, individuals can already be charged for acts that “tend to corrupt the morals of a minor.” The Republican lawmaker added that radical activists have pushed agendas that erode public decency and strip away the moral and cultural foundations that make our state strong. He says we must push back against this perverse ideology and fight to ensure our laws reflect the standards of decency and protection families in PA deserve. A co-sponsorship memo is being circulated seeking support for the proposal.
