HARRISBURG – In response to President Trump’s recent takeover of the Washington, D.C. police force, despite the objections of the city’s mayor, Sen. Art Haywood of Philadelphia & Montgomery Counties plans to introduce legislation to shield PA police departments from similar federal overreach. The proposal will establish protections against any federal attempt to seize control of PA law enforcement agencies without state or local consent and affirm PA’s commitment to community-led policing and local accountability. Haywood said allowing for local control of our law enforcement agencies cannot be overstated. When law enforcement is rooted in the community, they protect the safety and dignity of us all. Haywood plans to introduce the legislation in the coming weeks.
