HARRISBURG – Legislation will be proposed by Allegheny County Rep. Joe McAndrew which would limit the use of e-bikes and e-scooters on higher-speed state highways and roads to areas that properly post signage that clearly notifies that their use is permitted or there are designated lanes for their use. His proposal would also define e-scooters and prohibit their use on state highways and roads by anyone under 16-years-old. Currently, PA law limits max speeds of 20 mph for E-bikes, with no definitions on E-Scooters. While they are a viable mode of transportation, using these on higher speed roads presents a danger to both drivers and to the operators of the devices. The lawmaker added his legislation is about adding protections to save lives.
