HARRISBURG – Sen. Greg Rothman of Cumberland, Dauphin, & Perry Counties has introduced Senate Bill 1444 which will protect homeowners from outdated licensing and permitting processes that can be barriers to starting or operating a small business. Many Pennsylvanians support their families by operating small businesses out of their homes. Whether it’s providing instructional support for local students, making craft items or other endeavors, home-based businesses positively impact our economy and serve the needs of the community. While technological advancements have made home-based businesses more viable than ever, outdated local ordinances have failed to keep pace. The bill would ensure home-based businesses are not forced to pay unnecessary fees or obtain cumbersome licenses and permits. The bill would not impact municipalities’ authority to address nuisances, hold bad actors accountable or regulate matters of public health and safety.
