CUMBERLAND COUNTY – Authorities in Cumberland County expressed thanks to the dedication and teamwork of more than 150 agencies from six states and 16 counties as significant progress has been made in containing the wildfires that burned across Michaux State Forest. PA DCNR reports that as of last evening, the Thompson Hollow Fire is at 2,248 acres with 80% containment. The Hammonds Rocks Fire is at 470 acres with 100% containment. Officials thanked all first responders for their courage, skill, and selflessness in protecting lives, preserving property, and safeguarding the forest. They thanked the Department of Public Safety, which activated their Emergency Operations Center and Incident Support Team, who maintained boots on the ground at the fire scene, and provided critical support from their 9-1-1 center. They also thanked the community for their generosity in donating food, water, funds, and kind words which lifted the spirits of everyone on the front lines.
