HARRISBURG – Two bills before lawmakers in Harrisburg are being opposed by the PA Family Institute. House Bill 350, the Uniform Parentage Act, puts the desires of adults ahead of the best interests of children by allowing an unrelated adult to become the legal parent through surrogacy without the background checks and safety determinations required in any other circumstance for adopting an unrelated child. The bypassing of the adoption process and its essential screening protections will result in more abuse and trafficking. House Bill 300, the Fairness Act, would add “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” as protected classes under PA’s non-discrimination law. The effect of the legislation would be to force girls and women to share private spaces with biological males and compel religious schools, ministries, healthcare professionals, and creative professionals to act against their beliefs. PFI urges citizens to contact their state lawmakers to oppose the measures.
