HARRISBURG – The PA Department of Labor released its employment report for May 2021. The state’s unemployment rate shrank two-tenths of a percentage point to 6.9% in May. The U.S. rate fell to 5.8%. PA’s unemployment rate was 6.6 percentage points below its May 2020 level. The estimated number of residents working or looking for work decreased 6,000 over the month as employment rose 10,000 and unemployment fell 16,000. PA’s total non-farm jobs were up 18,500 in May. Jobs increased in 5 of the 11 industry sectors with the largest gain in education & health services. The largest drop was in construction which followed 12 consecutive monthly gains.
