HARRISBURG (AP) – PA U.S. Sen. John Fetterman’s approval ratings with Democrats in the state has declined and some Democrats are openly talking about running against Fetterman in 2028. It comes after Fetterman repeatedly criticized Democrats in media appearances while backing some of President Trump’s priorities. Fetterman has acknowledged his isolation from Democrats as he maintains staunch support of Israel’s war in Gaza and criticizes left-wing candidates who are members of the Democratic Socialists of America. But he has repeatedly said that he would not switch to become a Republican. Yet he has worked very closely with Republican PA U.S. Sen. David McCormick. Top Senate Republican John Thune said over the summer that Republicans would welcome Fetterman into the fold. A Quinnipiac poll from July found most Republicans approve of how Fetterman is handling his job, while most Democrats do not.
