HARRISBURG – A hearing is being held by the PA Senate Education Committee on a bill that would make a $1,000 per-student stimulus available to eligible families to help them afford educational expenses. Senate Bill 1230 would allot $500 million in federal CARES Act funding to establish a Back On Track Scholarship Program that PA families could apply to access no matter what type of school their children attend. The bill’s purpose is to ease the educational burden that COVID-19 has directly caused families. Families could use the Back on Track scholarship toward tutoring services, counseling, tuition, a laptop, books, or other education-related resources that will set them up for success this school year. The restricted use account would be available to all students whose families meet income requirements no matter if students attend public, private or charter schools or are home-schooled.
