HARRISBURG – Three bills aimed at improving broadband access to rural and underserved areas in PA has passed the state Senate Communications & Technology Committee. Senate Bill 835 creates a broadband accessibility funding program to review proposed projects and applications to increase broadband capability. The committee also approved Senate Bill 1118 and House Bill 2438 that would allow electric cooperatives to utilize existing utility poles to place fiber optic lines as long as it does not adversely affect the value or use of the property. All three measures go to the full state Senate for consideration.
