HARRISBURG – Advocates from school districts across the Commonwealth – large and small, urban, rural, and suburban – will convene on the Capitol steps at noon for a rally and remarks. Hundreds of parents, students, and educators will join PA Schools Work for its annual Advocacy Day. They will be calling on state legislators to support Governor Shapiro’s proposed education funding package and address the remaining $4 billion adequacy gap in Pennsylvania’s public schools. Two years after the historic Commonwealth Court ruling that declared Pennsylvania’s school funding system unconstitutional, Governor Shapiro’s proposed 2025-26 budget includes critical investments in public education: increases in basic and special education funding, targeted support for the most underfunded schools, investments in school infrastructure, and reforms to cyber charter funding that could generate significant savings for districts across Pennsylvania. According to recently relaeased PA Schools Work district fact sheets, while progress has been made, Pennsylvania schools still face an adequacy gap of nearly $4 billion. Advocates will meet with their elected officials throughout the day to discuss the urgent need to close this funding gap in their local communities.
