HARRISBURG – The PA House Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee voted unanimously to advance bipartisan legislation which would prohibit the manufacture, sale, distribution, and use of firefighting foam that contains toxic PFAS. PFAS are man-made “forever chemicals” that have been linked to a wide range of serious health issues, including cancer. These chemicals are often found in Class B firefighting foams. Additionally, House Bill 1261 directs the State Fire Commissioner to work closely with the Department of Environmental Protection to ensure the safe handling and disposal of banned materials. The bill now goes to the full PA House.
