HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Republicans in the state Senate and Democrats in the House are both elevating women for the first time to the critical position of floor leader. Sen. Kim Ward of Westmoreland County became Senate majority leader. Philadelphia and Delaware County state Rep. Joanna McClinton will serve as minority leader for House Democrats. Sen. Jake Corman, the state Senate’s Republican majority leader since 2015, will fill the empty post of president pro tempore when the Legislature’s new session starts in January. McClinton will take over from Rep. Frank Dermody, who conceded his reelection bid earlier this week.
